Went out to Speed Raceway for MLK day and threw the GoPro on some different helmets this time. Traction was near non-existent.

You should try karting in the rain, one of the strangest driving experiences I’ve ever had.

I wish I could with these karts!

Those barriers look fairly ineffective.
But otherwise looks like a good time. I need to talk the wife into going to the K1 place in H-Town.

Go to Xtreme Racing in Branson. 40 mph karts, and the best track ever. Especially at night.

Did they put something on the tires? They looked very shiny.

I randomly got invited by a buddy to do some league racing at a local complex that is known for being open every day, no matter what the weather is.
Was a real alien experience, front tires couldn’t steer because of the solid rear axle, the only way to turn the kart was to keep the back tires lit up for the duration of the turn. So the fastest line ended up being the extreme outside edge of each corner, which you had to take at full throttle and at full opposite lock, crazy.

Sounds like a blast, there was much oppo to be had on this day

The workers move the barriers after races because as you can see with my friends, they move quite easily. They recently just made the track more narrow so it is difficult now.

It sure felt like they were coated in baby oil or something! But really I think it’s just the combination of lighting and the tires being slicks.

Yeah it makes sense for altering the track layout and difficulty without too much work.

Is this the one in PA or the one in Jersey?

I live right around there if you ever need some competition.

Always looking for competition, I like to battle for top time of the day/week. I’ll post up next time we go out.

Looks like a regular Rally Cross race, nice hooning!

Great. Last time I was there I was about a second slower than the first time I went and the track seemed super slippery. Does the surface change or is it more likely the cart I was in had older tires?

They are always changing the track layout, you can see the difference if you watch both of my karting vids. I think the track is slippery due to it being cold out and the tires taking longer to warm up. If you go all out from Lap 1 with no interruptions you will almost always get your fastest lap on your last lap. I have no idea what sets the karts apart from each other; I always ask for one with a good charge and the wick turned all the way up!

I went a few weeks ago and brought my new GoPro but I never got around to editing it or posting on Oppo. However, the new layout plus the tires being as bad on traction as they are has cost me like 3 seconds on lap times. Really annoying.

The girl in our group was definitely caught out by the lack of traction as you can see her spin in the video. It can be annoying but it’s also a challenge too.

It's annoying but also stupid fun at the same time. I love sliding through the turns, especially the wide Turn 1. However, the new, narrower layout also slows you down by making it impossible to pass slow drivers.

Do you ever go on the back track? It’s pretty much ice.

I haven't been on the back track in a while but I totally get what you're talking about. It's crazy slippery there. My little brother races the Junior Karts and even those lose traction enough to oversteer back there.

That’s not understeer or oversteer. That’s just unsteer.

If I tried hard enough, I could drift the entire back track.

How much do they charge?

You have to pay for a license then its $20 a race. There’s specials sometimes as well.
